The original Marlin 1985 was produced until 1917. At that time, with the introduction of modern cartridges like the .30/06, the appeal of the .45/70 faded. Production of the new 1895 model began in 1972. It was built on the powerful Marlin 336 movement. The grip on the new SBL is polished and nickel-plated, and all metal parts on the gun are more polished than before. Although Ruger has made some manufacturing changes, such as the use of heat first and wire EDM machining of some parts, from the performance of the new SBL is almost the same as the old one. The movement seems to be smooth, however, and the edges of the large loop can be used. In the early SBLs, it was sharp enough to tear the skin off. With my first SBL, the trigger was smooth and broke at 2.75 pounds. In the new SBL, the trigger is just as light but requires twice as much pull.

Like most factory guns the new SBL has a length of pull that is about an inch longer for most shooters. But the hand on the floor is less and the hand-to-hand test is greatly simplified. There's also a laser-etched Marlin Man logo on the hood, and a soft, 1-inch-thick, button closure.

The only functional difference between the old 1895s and the new model made by Ruger has to do with loading and unloading. In Ruger 1895s, after loading the first round into the magazine tube you press the slide gate with the muzzle of the other bullet and push it in. the subject has already been ordered out from under the entrance door before being weakened. Any discussion of the top 10 shotguns ever made should include the Marlin 1895. I also believe the SBL is the best example of that. gun It's small, fast, and powerful, and fits most any viewing system. It can also be used to hunt any animal that roams the earth.
