Army has its own language. To the civilian world, this can seem like a confusing jumble of acronyms, abbreviations, acronyms and sheer slang. I have heard or been told all this while in uniform. These primarily come from the military, but each service has its own unique method of communication.
1.MOX NIX: From the German "machts nicht" usually translates as "it doesn't matter." "Don't bother me with Mox Nix's stuff! I have to get ready for a room inspection!"
2. Ring Knocker: Derogatory term for graduates of West Point or other service academies. This refers to their rather large class of rings. "Hey, I'm not a ring knocker! I went to Auburn!"
3.Double Digit Midget or 2 Digit Midget: Less than 100 days remaining on the unit. "I don't care if we get a duty battalion this month.

4.DEROS: Qualifying Date to Return from Abroad "I have a June 11th DEROS date and then I'm back in 'The World'!"
5.UN-ASS: Leaving quickly, often as an order from superiors. "Hey soldier! Open the day room of the barracks and head back to the motor pool!"
6. Fart Sack: A sleeping bag. "I've been guarding the perimeter all night. I can't wait to get into that nice, warm fluffy sack."
7. Hardball: A paved road. "After a week of stomping in the sand in the field, it was great to finally get on a hardball."

8.SNIVEL GEAR: Items of clothing usually associated with inclement weather. "It's not that cold. Why are you crying because you forgot your snivell gear?"
9.DI-DI MAU (or just Di-Di) to hurry. "Hey, you two knuckleheads out of here!" Some bastard from Vietnam. Very common when more Vietnam veterans were in uniform. Nowadays, not so much.
10.FNG: F------G New Guy "Make sure your squad is squared up for the FNG field. He just got out of boot camp."
11.REMF: Rear Echelon Mother F----R. Anyone further from the front line than you. "It's too easy for all the REMF back in the battalion!"

12.FOBBIT: A soldier stationed at a safe and relatively comfortable Forward Operating Base (FOB) and like the hobbits in "Lord of the Rings" they are very comfortable and have little desire to leave. "I wish I could get a FOBBIT assignment the next time I'm deployed to Afghanistan."
13.COB: Close of Business. The end of the working day usually coincides with the creation of the unit. "After COB, I'm going into town to see my girlfriend."
14. GI Party: Scrubbing the barracks from top to bottom. "So fast, not private. The platoon is having a GI party because this place is filthy!"
15. High and tight: The military version of the crew cut. "The first sergeant said he wanted me to stop looking like a terrible hippie and get taller and tighter."

16. Soup Sandwich or Football Bat: A way to describe a soldier whose performance is subpar. "In person, you're as useless as a soup sandwich."
17. Oh Dark 30: Early Morning. "I'm tired. We didn't get back from the field until dark-thirty." With all due respect to the excellent movie "Zero Dark Thirty", I've never heard of that.
18. Fruit Salad: A collection of colorful ribbons on a military dress uniform. "Did you see that fruit salad on the Sergeant Major's uniform? He must have been in the Army since Valley Forge!"
